The Wolfville Farm Market was one of the first places I made contact with when I
moved to Nova Scotia. How do you make friends when you arrive in a new place? Well,
having done dozens of conventions over the last fourteen years, setting up a table and
putting out some comics and doing some sketches seemed to be an obvious first step
in introducing myself to my new community. And what community! The kinds of
people who make wholesome food are exactly the kinds of people I was hoping to meet.
I met my girlfriend through the farm market, and I made a lot of fine friends there too.
So when Kelly-Marie, (the market organizer), asked me if I could do a poster, I jumped at
the chance. "You bet!" I said, and out popped a poster. Incidentally, the characters pictured
in the poster are prototypes for those in Stardrop. --That's an early Jen when she was sort
of Ashelle at the same time. I later decided it would be more interesting to actually split her
personalities in half, figuring that way she could debate her differences out loud.
Here's the advertising strip which goes with the poster. . .
The 'SUB' Jen is talking about stands for "Student Union Building", which is a major
feature on the landscape of Wolfville, home to Acadia University. The Farm Market
goes indoors for the Winter, and the Acadia Student Union was kind enough to give us
space. This strip was an attempt to alert the student body that there was a Farm Market
worth attending on campus. (Serving far better than the food they serve at the cafeteria!)
The strip was run in the campus newspaper.
